Who this program serves
Two kinds of families find this page. The first: patients in the Philippines who want American-standard surgery — robotic precision, US-licensed physicians, US implant supply chains, and US patient protections — without flying all the way to the mainland. The second: Filipino-Americans in Hawai‘i and beyond arranging a parent's surgery, who want Mom or Dad treated seriously, close to family, in a city where Ilocano and Tagalog are heard at every mall.
Dr. Paul Morton treats both every year. He is board-certified, double fellowship-trained, and performed Hawai‘i's first robotic hip replacement. His fly-in program is built around patients who travel, and the office carries the medical side of the planning with you: your records, your imaging, your dates and a written quote, all before you book anything.
Transparent pricing — before you board a plane
International patients pay directly, so you deserve a real number, not an estimate that grows. Dr. Morton's self-pay surgical packages bundle the surgeon's fee, facility, anesthesia, implant, and follow-up care into one written quote. Outpatient surgery-center pricing typically runs far below US hospital list prices — and you'll see the complete figure before committing to travel.
- Telehealth consultation with your imaging reviewed first
- Written all-inclusive package quote in USD
- Medical documentation to support your visa application
- One trip: pre-op testing, surgery, recovery, fit-to-fly clearance
- Telehealth follow-up after you return home
Why Hawai‘i instead of Manila — or the mainland
The Philippines has capable surgeons; what patients seek here is the specific combination of technology and system: robotic platforms on every case, the Persona IQ smart knee that monitors recovery remotely after you fly home, cementless implants, and opioid-sparing protocols — inside the US regulatory and malpractice framework. Compared with the mainland, Honolulu is hours closer, the climate is familiar, and the culture is genuinely comfortable: Hawai‘i's Filipino community is one of the largest in America, and it shows in the hospitals, the food, and the way families are treated.

The journey, step by step
Start with a telehealth consultation — evenings Philippine time work well with Hawai‘i's clock. Send your X-rays or have new ones taken locally; Dr. Morton reviews everything and gives you a straight answer about what you need. If surgery is right, the office schedules your testing, surgery and follow-up around one trip: most patients spend 10–14 days in Honolulu, walking the same day as surgery and completing supervised therapy before flying home with written follow-up plans. You book your own flights and lodging; travel and lodging coordination can be arranged through the practice's Rapid Recovery Concierge program, at the TotalCare Elite level, if you'd rather have it handled. Ask your coordinator what fits your route, and you will get the options in writing before anything is booked. Balikbayan families often schedule surgery around a Hawai‘i visit so recovery time doubles as family time.
